If you like the industrial look of cement, then you’ll probably like the Akoya rectangular concrete fire pit table. It has that heavy, commercial appeal, yet the table is made out of “lightweight” concrete fiber.
Concrete Fire Pit is Easier to Set Up & Move than You Think
I put “lightweight” in quotes because this fire pit is not light by any means. However, it weighs considerably less than standard cement. Two people can move it.
Speaking of moving the table, each end has 2 handle grips (see photos). Therefore, carrying this fire pit just became a whole lot easier.
The Akoya Fire Pit Comes with a Unique Glass Guard:
Note: This Akoya fire pit has a unique feature that differs from most other fire tables. It comes with a glass guard, which acts as a wind breaker.
Not to mention, the glass surround prevents items from falling off the table and into the fire bowl.
So, if your backyard or deck gets windy sometimes, a wind guard acts as a safety feature. It stops the wind from blowing the flames around.
Consequently, the flames burn taller and larger and give off more light. In other words, you get a better fire pit experience. (By the way, glass guards aren’t cheap accessories, so it can save you money when included in the package.)
Of course, if you have wine glasses sitting on the table, it doesn’t hurt to have a barrier between them and the flames, right? =)
The narrow ledges on this rectangle-shaped fire pit don’t make it ideal as an outdoor dining table. However, it provides a great spot for wine glasses, coffee mugs or just to kick your feet up.
Where to Put the Propane Gas Tank:
This modern style fire pit has a relaxed, inviting feel to it because it sits lower to the ground. As a result, you can’t fit a 20-lb propane tank underneath it.
Instead, the tank connects to the fire bowl via a long hose. Typically, people get a propane tank cover, which hides the gas tank, but also acts as a side table.
A cover is actually an easy way to get extra tabletop space for multiple uses.
For example, you can set a lamp on it, a portable stereo or snacks. All while the propane tank stays hidden.
Alternatively, you can convert this fire pit to natural gas with a conversion kit. Save money on gas, and a tank cover.
Note: All that said, you can get the Akoya table in a taller version which fits the tank underneath the table itself.
The taller table looks almost identical except for its dimensions. It measures 6 inches taller and 10 inches longer.
Electronic Ignition and Making Your Gas Tank Last Longer:
Note: Once you’ve got the table set up, this fire pit is really easy to use because it features electronic ignition. You simply push a button while you turn the gas knob, and the fire bowl automatically lights.
You can also adjust the flame size by rotating the knob. A higher setting gives off more flames and uses more gas. Inversely, a lower setting puts out smaller flames and uses less gas.
Therefore, if you want to extend the life of your gas tank, set your flame level to low. You may be able to even double the life of your tank.
